New Delhi, Apple iPhone X’s FaceID security feature has been making rounds ever since the smartphone’s unveiling at Apple event held earlier this week. The smartphone’s FaceID allegedly failed during the demo at the event while Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering Craig Federighi was showing it off to the gathering. The so-called glitch even reportedly led to a temporary fall in Apple’s market value.
Now in an email to a Apple developer, Federighi has revealed some more features of the FaceID.
As quoted by Gadgetsnow.com. The details come as a reply to queries sent by a developer named Keith Krimbel. On asking if the FaceID will work if the user has sunglasses on, Federighi answered that is should work with most of them. “Most sunglasses let through enough IR light that FaceID can see your eyes even when the glasses appear to be opaque,” he responded.
The developer further asked if a thief will be able to unlock the Apple iPhone X using the FaceID. To this Federighi assured that even if the iPhone X is in front of the user’s face, it won’t unlock until unless the users looks at the eye scanner. Furthermore, if users press the buttons on both sides of the iPhone X, it will temporarily disable FaceID.
For those unaware, the iPhone X bids goodbye to Home Button. The TouchID has been replaced by FaceID in the smartphone. This means that there’s no fingerprint sensor in iPhoneX. iPhone X uses facial recognition to unlock the device. Users can set up FaceID by letting their iPhone X make a detailed digital “map” of their face. Apple claims that FaceID is a lot easier and safer. According to the company, there’s a one in a milion chance of someone being able to ‘hack’ your phone. FaceID is said to run on ‘neural engine’ powered by the company’s A11 Bionic processor.
Other than FaceID, the iPhone X touts its 5.8-inch edge-to-edge OLED Super Retina display. It features Apple’s highest resolution phone display: 2436 x 1125 pixels at 458 pixels per inch density (ppi). The HDR display also supports Dolby Vision and HDR10.
At Rs 1,02,000 for 256GB, the Apple iPhone X sets new high for mainstream smartphone’s pricing. The starting price of Rs 89,000 too makes it the most expensive iPhone launched so far.
